Sub eight again: Timo Bracht’s great performance in Roth

The 31st edition of the legendary Challenge Roth (GER) last Sunday was another successful competition for X-BIONIC® Athlete Timo Bracht. He finished 31 seconds behind his last years victory time in 7:56:31h – only 5 minutes behind winner Nils Frommhold who showed an outstanding bike performance and was unbeatable this year.

The race started early in the morning at 6:30 am. Timo was in the leading swim group and started very fast on the bike. During the cycling, the later winner showed an extraordinary performance with one of the best long distance bike times ever and Timo lost about 11 minutes to him.

But Timo did not give up the fight and got 6 minutes back during the final run. Timo ran the fastest marathon but was not able to close the gap to the leader. Although he could not defend his title, Timo was happy with his race performance: “Today I had a very good race, but Nils showed a better performance that I could not beat this year” mentioned Timo after the race.

Timo’s team-mate Horst Reichel  who started for the very first time in Roth had a bad day. Due to health problems he could not eat anything during the race and kept far behind his own expectations. But he said that he will return to Roth and is motivated for his comeback next year.

We wish both athletes to recover well after this hard competition – have a good preparation time for the next events!

The Timo Bracht Show

The Challenge Roth timer displayed 7:56h last Sunday when one man crossed the finish line before all the others – Timo Bracht!

His 7th attempt at the Challenge Roth was finally successful. Timo set one clear goal this year: Win this race! For this goal skips the World Championships at Hawaii this autumn and set his focus on the classic triathlon competition around the Bavarian city: “Dreaming alone is not enough! Roth is my Hawaii this year” he said before the race.

During the hard race conditions with unpredictable weather conditions he never needed to worry about his clothing: “With this kind of gear you never need to worry about the heat and changing weather conditions. With the high functional clothing of X-BIONIC® and X-SOCKS® I am able to extract the best performance out of my body. My victory showed that everything worked perfectly together today” mentioned Timo after the race.

This year was the 30th anniversary of the Challenge Roth and lots of spectators cheered each one of the 3500 athletes and 650 relay teams. The long distance race with 3,8 km swim, 180 km bike and 42 km run is the biggest triathlon event world wide and the biggest yearly sports event in Bavaria.  About 220.000 spectators watched the race live during the day next to the athletes. About 30 degrees air temperature, annoying wind and a mix of rain showers made the race even harder. But the finishing area with the cheering crowd was the best reward for each competitor after a long and struggling race day.

Mahalo Timo, Horst & Jan!

Timo Bracht at Hawaii 2013

The IRONMAN World Championships on Hawaii are history: The POWER HORSE Triathlon Team showed a great performance and verified it´s leading role in the triathlon scene. Timo Bracht achieved another top ten result and finished on the 9th rank. The Hawaii “newbie” Horst Reichel also had a great start but a hard fight with the heat during his running part. The third athlete of the team, Jan Raphael, dropped out on the final marathon due to health problems. The new champion Frederik van Lierde (Belgium) showed the best performance in the heat of Big Island and finished the race in 08:12:29 hours. The new women´s champion Mirinda Carfrae (Australia) needed 8:52:14 hours for the Ironman. Congratulations to all finishers of this great competition!

Timo Bracht: “Everything given and happy with ninth place”

“It was a very emotional week. There were days when it ran great and days since it went so well. I then managed to get everything out of me when it counted. The result reflects not quite resist my good feeling. I’ve invested from beginning to end, over a period of 8:25 hours, very much and was constantly strong. Therefore, at the end perhaps lacked the power to still make up some places. Ninth place and the second best German – so I can live very well.”

Horst Reichel, “That was a hard thing”

“Unfortunately, I missed the connection while swimming one kilometer and could not prove my good form. The cycling was good and the top 15 were still possible after the change. On the run it was insanely hot. From kilometer 18, I had to take walk breaks. I am happy in spite of everything reached on such a tough day the goal. Because of the heat, I could not retrieve my performance simply, an absolute limit experience. But I’ll be back! “

Jan Raphael: “It seems as if Kona and I are not friends”

“It’s always disappointing not to reach the goal. If I had been able to finish the race, I would have done it anyway. Earlier this week, the discomfort of the hip have been felt, but I thought this to get through the good work of our physiotherapist Dirk Lederer at the handle. It certainly seems so, that Kona and I are not really friends. The disappointment is huge, but I’m happy with my season!”
